While the rest of the school was at the Science Centre, we had such a fun day at school! We made slime, melted crayon art, made icecream, had a glow in the dark party, and made catapults! I've had some requests to post the recipes for the slime and ice cream, and it's made with things you can get from the grocery store! Here they are, along with a snapshot of our glow stick party.
Wow, what a whirlwind the past two weeks have been! Everyone did such a great job at the Talent Show, and we raised $1735, which Scotiabank matched to meet a grand total of $3470!
As many of you know, we have the wonderful Dawn Blakenstein who is our new gr 1/2 teacher in the afternoons from Mon-Wed, and she is a fantastic teacher. As I am stepping in to this new ESL role, my heart aches because I will miss our class, but it is overjoyed that they are in the best hands for the last two months of school! I will still be teaching math from 11:15-11:45 from Mon-Thurs, and will be there at lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, Miss Appleton, or Mrs. Blakenstein! Keep being awesome grade 1/2s! The teachers had a great time at our PL day, and we hope you had a great long weekend! Talent show auditions are now finished, and we will be holding practices during lunch time for the next two weeks.
This week we will be starting a science unit on our 5 senses, and continuing a scrapbook all about Lethbridge for Social Studies. Friday (April 22) What a fun week back to school! We made playdough, measured our height and found out which animal we're closest to, and did a scavenger hunt around the school to find the most important things we would need to know if we were new to the school.

Dear Parents, We are so excited that our Animal Research Projects are almost completed! One of the last parts of our project will be creating a diorama (3D model) of our animal’s habitat from craft and recycled material. This means we need your help! Each student will need a shoebox to build their diorama in, as well as some extra recyclable materials you have at home (cardboard tissue boxes, the inside of toilet paper/paper towel rolls, etc.) If you have more than one empty shoebox, we would really appreciate if we could have extras just in case someone else in the class does not have one. Some of these items should be brought in by Wednesday afternoon, February 3 so we can get started on our project right away! This also means that on Monday, February 8th we will not have Discovery Time; instead, we will continue to finish up our dioramas. If you would like to help out as a parent/guardian volunteer those two afternoons, please contact Mrs. Wengel ([email protected]) We could use extra hands to help out at these times:
Thank you, I look forward to seeing what they will create! Here are a few examples: |
